My therapeutic approach
I tailor the treatment to each client and their individual needs, personality, presenting problems and symptoms. My therapeutic approach also depends on whether a client is seeking more short-term counselling or more in-depth long-term therapy.
I am an experienced, integrated psychotherapist with a BA (Hons) in Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am an accredited member of the Irish Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists. I am also an accredited EMDR Europe practitioner. I have trained extensively in the Resnick’s model of coupling as well as in the developmental model with the Couple’s Institute (Ellen and Pete Bader). Both models of couples training use an integration of many approaches and disciplines. I also have specific sex therapy training with the Institute of Relational Intimacy (Martha Kauppi). I have done many trainings using the Relational Life Training model (Terry Real) and family systems theory (Esther Perel). I am continuously updating my knowledge by attending advanced training in various couple therapy models with world-wide experts in the field.
I am the faculty of lecturers with the “Institute of Couples” where I train psychotherapists on the post-graduate diploma in relationship psychotherapy.
I draw on a variety of theoretical approaches and models including person-centred, psycho-dynamic, gestalt, transactional analysis, cognitive behavioural therapy, attachment theories (including developmental and personality theories), family systems approach, body-oriented therapies, mindfulness and EMDR.
